The Linhart Foundation has become a proud partner of the European Festivals Association (EFA) which in late 2016 addressed all European festivals qualified to apply for the Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe (EFFE) quality brand for the 2017/2018 period. The EFFE festival label is intended to designate European international festivals offering high quality artistic programmes and gathering around them a broad community of artists and visitors. No limitations are set as to the festivals´ contents which may encompass the broadest scale of fields, including music, art, film, theatre, circus and multiple other genres.
In its capacity as the EFFE Hub for the Czech Republic, the Linhart Foundation has offered to all festivals in the Czech Republic assistance in the process of drawing up their EFFE label applications. For this purpose, we organized an EFFE Launch Event which took place on January 25, 2017, at 5:00 p.m., in NoD Café, Dlouhá Street 33, Prague 1.
The EFFE 2017 – 2018 label for top quality European festivals has been granted to 715 festivals in 39 countries, including 29 festivals held in the Czech Republic. One of them, TANEC PRAHA, was nominated for the EFFE Award.
The Czech EFFE label holding festivals were selected in a process whose first round was supervised by a Czech festival jury comprised of leading specialists in different art fields. Its members included Helena Kovaříková, Jana Návratová, David Daniel, David Drozd, Matěj Kratochvíl and Pavel Kubesa. Their recommendations were subsequently submitted for further adjudication by an international EFFE jury. Representatives from the freshly certified festivals received their certificates at an official ceremony held in the Školská 28 Communication Space on 15 June, 2017. The certificates were handed over by Mrs Petra Smolíková, Deputy Minister in charge of the Department of Legislative Affairs and International Relations at the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, and Mr Peter Zsapka, head of the Communications Department of the Representation of the European Commission in the Czech Republic. In an address on behalf of the expert jury, Mrs Helena Kovaříková commended the activities of all festivals in this country, and emphasized the Czech Republic´s overall considerable cultural potential.
