ART TIP: This evening the “Department of Intermedia” from the University of West Bohemia (ZČU Plzeň) presents young video artists at Video NoD and NoD Mini (Dlouhá 33, Praha 1). Selected works of students of the “Institute of Art and Design” will be shown. The video artists are: Dana Bartoníčková, Lenka Hotmarová, Veronika Konturová, Lukáš Malák, Rudolf Matějček, Tomáš Šrámek, Vladimír Tůma and Lenka Tyrpeklová. TEATRO NoD TIP: This evening the dance fashion performance “Showroom” will be staged at teatro NoD (Dlouhá 33, Praha 1). This project is a result of the collaboration between the newly estabilished dance group ConfiDANCE and the fashion designer Kristýna Javůrková. Therefore “Showroom” understands itself as an unique interconnection between fashion and dance performance, while at the same time a new collection by Javůrková will be presented. FESTIVAL TIP: Throughout tomorrow's Saturday the “Queer Eye Festival 2013” will take place at NoD (Dlouhá 33, Praha 1). This festival focuses on alternative music, performances, visual arts and photography. It maps the Czech society and culture from a different “queer” perspective. And since it is organized by four women, it is a particularly a lesbian and a feminist festival. The program of the festival consists of workshops, lectures, photography/art, artistic and theatrical performances, and alternative bands. The workshops will start at 14:00, the lectures at 14:30 and the main stage will open at 19:00. There will perform the Czech punk-rock band “Tabula Rasa” (19:10), the British rock band “Those Three” (20:00) and the French duo “MENSCH” (21:00). FESTIVAL TIP: Prague definitely loves movie festivals! After the Febio Fest, the Kiwi Film Fest, the Tibetan Film Festival and the 20th Days of European Film today starts already the next film festival, the “Echoes of Forman Festival” at Kino Ořechovka (Na Ořechovce 30b, Prague 6), which will last until the 28th of April. This film festival is dedicated to the life and work of the Czech-American director and screenwriter Miloš Forman, who could win two Oscars. Different movies by Forman will be shown, so for example the two movies which were  awarded with an Oscars “One Flew Over the Cockoo's Nest” (20.04. at 19:30) and “Amadeus” (23.04. at 19:30), or also “The People vs. Larry Flynt” (26.04. at 19:30) and “Goya's Ghosts” (28.04. at 19:30). MOVIE TIP: Today is the last day of the 20th “Days of European Film”. Once more, you have the chance to watch interesting and thought-provoking films from all over Europe.  So for example the Icelandic and Norewgian movie “The Deep” (2012) by Baltasar Kormákur, that will be shown at 20:30 at Kino Světozor (Vodičkova 41, Prague 1) and at 19:00 at Kino Lucerna (Vodičkova 36, Prague 1). In “The Deep” a routine fishing trip turns disastrous when a strong storm at sea capsizes the fishing boat and makes Gulli to the only crew member, who survives. He returns to his hometown as a celebrity, but views things very differently. Another tip is the British documentary “The Imposter” (2012) by Bart Layton, who runs at Kino Lucerna at 21:15. teatro NoD REVIEW: Yesterday evening the French dancer Serge Ambert and acordeonist Arnaud Méthivier impressed the audience at the sold out teatro NoD with their breathtaking performance “Souffle aux Corps”. And just like the title of the performance “Souffle aux Corps” (Whispers of the Bodies) suggested, it was an improvised performance about the interaction of bodies in exchange with the intense music of Méthivier's acordeon. There were ironic moments in the percormance, for example when both were trying to touch each other with their noses, as well as deep emotional moments, so when Méthivier was singing and playing the acordeon intensively and Ambert was dancing around him and holding his hand on his mouth, so that the chant of Méthivier sounded a kind of unreal, surrealistic, but touching the heart. An extraordinary voyage of whispering bodies.

MOVIE TIP: Still until this Thursday lasts the film festival “Days of European Film”. Tomorrow will be two interesting movies at Kino Světozor (Vodičkova 41, Prague 1). The Spanish animated, tragicomic movie “Wrinkles” (2011) by Ignacio Ferreras is dealing with the topic of aging. It uncovers many taboos, but presents them with ease, dignity, and wit. The movie starts at 18:30. Straight after “Wrinkles” follows the Turkish movie “Where the Fire Burns” (2012) by Ismail Güneş. The main character, Ayse, a young Turkish girl, is pregnant but refuses to reveal the identity of the father. This causes a heavy conflict with her father, Osman, who decides to perform a brutal, primitive practice to cleanse the family name: he must kill his own daughter. “Where the Fire Burns” starts at 20:30. PARTY TIP: On Thursday evening Balkan Beats goes Electro Swing at the party “Balkan Bashavelu” at Café V lese (Krymská 273/12, Prague 10). Two hot bands are staging. On the one hand “Malalata Sound System” (Czech Reublic, Slovakia), who combine Balkan Beats with Mexican Cumbia, Caribbean Reggae with French Swing and Gypsy music with Slovakian traditional music. MOVIE TIP: Tomorrow (Světozor, 20:30) and on Wednesday (Lucerna, 17:30) the film festival “Days of European Film” will show the German movie “Barbara” (2012) by Christian Petzold. This movie confronts the viewer with the story of a female doctor during times of the East German Republic (GDR). Barbara (acted by the outstanding Nina Hoss) is seeking for independence and individual freedom, but faces oppression and harassment by the Stasi, the former state security service of the GDR and known for its cruel and unhuman practices against GDR citizen. FESTIVAL TIP: After the 20. FEBIO FEST in March follows already the next anniversary of a Prague-based film festival. From today on the “Days of European Film” celebrate its 20th anniversary. The program of this film festival consists of thought-provoking films from all over Europe, including two new sections: the “EuroDocs” (documentary films) and “To the Point” (addresses to the European Year of Citizenship in 2013). The film festival takes place in two movie theaters: Kino Světozor (Vodičkova 41, Prague 1) and Kino Lucerna (Vodičkova 36, Prague 1). FESTIVAL TIP: Tomorrow the 19th edition of the “Czech Dance Platform Festival” is starting, which will last for four days until Sunday. The “Czech Dance Platform” presents Czech artists from the field of contemporary dance and movement theatre. It takes place at various venues, so at the Ponec theatre, the Archa Theatre, the Alfred ve dvoře, La Fabrika, the Studio ALTA and also at the Teatro NoD. The two dance productions that stage at the Teatro NoD are “Manson” (Thursday, 17:00) and “One Step Before the Fall” (Friday, 19:00). The ticket prices range from 120-190 crowns. ART REVIEW: Adam Pelc is an object artist with a huge sense of humour, while reflecting everyday life and his way of thinking through his exhibited objects. So therefore the first impression at his exhibition "Tak jinak" at the Galerie Jeleni (Drtinova 15, Prague 5) is, what is that? And, is that art? There are objects like contact lenses, old shoes, a racing cycle or a hard disc, which seem to lie around in a useless way. But with a closer look and some information on one's hands, these objects turn alive in telling various art related stories. So did Pelc with the racing cycle a performance in riding it through all wholes that he could find on a road in Usti (near Trmice). This performance lasted about 20 minutes until “the work was done”, which means the bike was damaged and it turned from a practical object into an artifact called “Bajsikl”. ART REVIEW: The exhibition “Nightfall - New tendencies in figurative painting” opened recently at Galerie Rudolfinum (Alšovo nábřeží 12, Prague 1) and over 20 painters from nine countries show their latest works. And to write it already at the beginning of this article, the exhibition is very worth going to, because all the pictures take a deep breath of human condition while reflecting modernism and the struggle of mankind in it. It feels almost like a mirror, which the painters throw from every picture at the people to reflect themselves and to relocate the painters topics. So for example shows the Moldovan painter Alexander Tinei in his unique picture “Family” (2011) a classical arrangement of father, mother, son and daughter, but surprisingly their faces seem to disappear and the eyes are melting.
